Imaginarium 2013

"Aces" was selected for Imaginarium 2013: The Best Canadian Speculative Writing.

"Aces" received an honourable mention in The Best Horror of the Year, Volume 5.

When I think about Soelle, the spooky kid in "Aces," I think about a line in a Northern Pikes song: "She's a girl with a problem and there ain't no cure."

That sums up Soelle pretty well. She's got problems, and her problems are having a disastrous effect on the people and the world around her. She seems to think finding a series of playing-card aces will fix things, and maybe they will, but not in the way that's really good for you and me.

I wanted to write a story about a freaky girl who just didn't fit in with reality. Then I wondered, what if this kid was your sister?

None yet.
